Support students with IEPs at BCPS as a Therapeutic Behavioral Aide (TBA), Non-Therapeutic Aide (TAS), or Classroom Support Aide. W-2 employment with free health insurance, weekly pay, and full training. This is the complete hiring guide from application to your first day.
Eaglewings Allied Health Staffing Agency places qualified paraprofessionals in public school settings across Maryland through our education division, Eaglewings Educational Service LLC. Our school-based staff provide one-to-one support for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and support students through classroom, transition, and mobility needs at Baltimore City Public Schools.
This page walks through every step of the hiring process — from application to your first classroom day. The full journey typically takes 4 to 6 weeks, depending on how quickly each step is completed. Our HR team guides you through the entire process.
Eaglewings places aides in three designations. Your interview and school assignment determine which fits you best. The designation is attached to the student's needs, not the aide's certification — meaning your rate is tied to your assigned student, not just what training you hold.
Therapeutic Behavioral Aide
Supports students with intensive behavioral needs. Requires a current CPI Blue Card AND assignment to a TBA-classified student. Both conditions must be true.
Non-Therapeutic Aide
Supports academic, transition, and mobility needs. No physical intervention under any circumstance. Verbal de-escalation and calling for support are your only authorized responses.
Full-Classroom Support
Provides support alongside the teacher for a full classroom rather than a single student. Rate confirmed at offer.
⚡ Important: A CPI Blue Card alone does NOT guarantee TBA pay. Your rate depends on both your certification AND the student assignment. If your student transfers or their IEP is updated, your rate may change accordingly — the rate follows the student, not the aide.
Direct deposit via Gusto. Homebase Cash Out available for next-day pay.
SBMA/PHCS medical, Aflac dental & vision — all free to employees. Must actively enroll.
Full payroll tax withholding, workers' comp coverage, and employment protections.
Eaglewings pays for your CPI training and Blue Card certification — you don't pay out of pocket.
BCPS fingerprinting and badge pickup (~$65) reimbursed in your first paycheck — receipt required.
Every employee supported by our Clinical Supervisor — an RN with 25+ years of experience.
Each step must be completed before moving to the next. The full process typically takes 4 to 6 weeks. The fastest way to speed things up is to respond promptly at every step.
Submit your application through our careers page. Our HR team reviews your qualifications, work history, and supporting documents to determine whether you meet the minimum requirements. If additional information is needed, we'll contact you before moving forward.
Before moving forward, you'll review important information about how Eaglewings operates — company policies, attendance expectations, professional standards, pay rates, payroll schedule, and employee responsibilities.
Key facts you'll acknowledge: This is a temporary staffing role tied to the school year. All positions are at-will, non-exempt, and hourly. Required trainings — including the 40-hour mandatory training and CPI training — are unpaid, though Eaglewings covers your CPI certification cost. This step ensures both you and Eaglewings have clear expectations from the beginning.
If you've previously worked in a Maryland school system, you'll complete a Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) form. This allows us to verify your previous school employment and satisfy state hiring requirements. If you've never worked in a Maryland school, this step may not apply — HR will let you know after reviewing your work history.
Because you'll be supporting students throughout the school day, a medical clearance is required. Your physical confirms you're medically able to perform the essential duties of the position. You'll receive instructions and paperwork before your appointment. Please do not attend your appointment without your Eaglewings forms.
This is our opportunity to learn more about you. We'll discuss your experience, education, availability, and interest in working with students.
Eaglewings places aides in three designations: Therapeutic Behavior Aide (TBA) for students with intensive behavioral needs, Non-Therapeutic Aide (TAS) for academic, transition, and mobility support, and Classroom Support Aide for full-classroom support alongside the teacher. Your interview and school assignment will determine which designation fits you best.
Everyone working with students must complete fingerprinting and background screening. This is a school district requirement. Processing times vary, so completing this step promptly helps avoid delays in your start date.
Before entering the classroom, you'll complete Eaglewings' mandatory 40-hour training program covering student safety, professional conduct, confidentiality, special education support, classroom expectations, documentation, and school procedures. This training prepares you to confidently support students from your very first day.
You'll complete Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training — a nationally recognized certification that teaches you how to prevent behavior escalation, de-escalate crisis situations, safely respond when students become physically aggressive, and use approved intervention techniques only when necessary.
For Therapeutic Behavior Aides, CPI certification is required before assignment. Eaglewings covers the cost of your CPI certification.
Your BCPS badge is the final step before you can begin working. The badge confirms Baltimore City Public Schools has approved your clearance to enter school buildings for the upcoming school year. Once you've shared a copy of your badge with Eaglewings, we'll submit your name to North Avenue for placement.
Once every hiring requirement has been completed, Eaglewings submits your name to North Avenue (BCPS central office). North Avenue approves you and assigns you to a school based on available students and school need.
Important: Eaglewings cannot guarantee your school, location, or bell time — assignments are determined by BCPS, not by Eaglewings.
